Karlie Kloss is an American model and ballet dancer. She was born in Chicago, Illinois, and her family moved to St. Louis, Missouri in 1992.

Kloss began studying at Caston's Ballet Academie in 2002 before being invited to dance with the main company, the Caston Chamber Ballet, in June 2007.

Kloss was discovered at a charity fashion show in St. Louis. In 2007, she signed with Elite Model Management before controversially moving to NEXT Model Management in January 2008. She has been in advertisements for Nina Ricci, Gap, Pringle of Scotland, and American Eagle. She has walked for numerous designers, including Calvin Klein, Karl Lagerfeld, Marc Jacobs, Zac Posen, Givenchy, Gucci, Valentino and Versace, and appeared in editorials for the Italian and British Vogue magazines. Her covers include American Teen Vogue alongside Chanel Iman and Ali Michael.

At the Jill Stuart Fall 2008 show, model-turned-TV host Tyra Banks was seen mockingly imitating Kloss' swaying motion and "stoned death stare."
